POC ipinagmamalaki ang 5th place finish ng atletang Pinoy sa Laos SEA Games

MANILA, Philippines - Sa halip na ikahiya bunga ng pagiging fifth-placer sa katatapos na 25th Southeast Asian Games sa Vientiane, Laos, mas dapat pang papurihan ang mga national athletes.

Ito ang pahayag ng Philip­pine Olympic Committee (POC) ukol sa pagkolekta ng Team Philippines ng ka­buuang 38 gold, 35 silver at 51 bronze medals.

“I would like to commend the Filipino athletes na talagang nagpakita ng tibay ng dibdib kahit na nagkaroon ng ilang distractions that ca­me along their way,” ani POC spokesman Joey Ro­ma­santa.

Matapos noong 2007, mu­ling inangkin ng Thailand ang overall championship sa Laos sa nahakot na 86-83-97 medalya kasunod ang Vietnam (83-75-57) at In­donesia (43-53-74).

Noong 2005 Philippine SEA Games, kumolekta ang mga Filipino athletes ng kabuuang 112 gold, 84 sil­ver at 94 bronze medals para tanghalin bilang overall champion.

Sa Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand naman noong 20­07, bumagsak sa pang anim na puwesto ang national con­tingent galing sa naiuwing 41 gold, 91 silver at 96 bronze medals.

Idinagdag rin ng POC official na kumpara sa Thailand at Vietnam na nagpadala ng halos 600 at 500 atleta sa Laos, mas maganda pa rin ang ipinakita ng Team Phi­lippines sa kabila ng ipi­naradang 251 atleta.

Samantala, nakatakda na­mang tumanggap ang 38 gold medal winners ng cash incentives na P300,000 bawat isa mula sa Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

“As promised, the PSC will give an additional P100,­000 on top of the P100,000 provided by the Incentives Act and the P100,000 coming from the private sector,” sabi ni PSC chairman Harry Angping. (RCADAYONA)
