SEAG Federation umapela para makalahok ang 12 RP riders

Vientiane--Ipinakita ng 11 miyembro ng South­east Asian Games Federation ang kanilang puso para sa mga Filipino cyclists.

Umapela ang SEAG Federation sa interna­tional federation ng cy­cling na payagang m­a­kalahok ang 12-man Philippine cycling team sa 2009 Laos SEA Games.

“It is heart warming that all members signed in our appeal letter to the IF of cycling. Now all we can do is to wait for its response,” wika ng kontrobersyal na si Go Teng Kok, ang Special Assistant to the POC president at chairman ng ­POC Committee on Sports and Rules, matapos ang dalawang araw na pagdinig ng Rules Committee ng SEAG.

Magsisimula ang cycling competitions sa Disyembre 10 tampok ang downhill races para sa male at female division.

Ang UCI, ang international federation ng cycling, ay naglabas na ng statement kamakailan kung saan tanging ang UCI accredited riders lamang ang papayagang makalahok sa SEAG.

Bago ito, tiniyak na ng Asian Cycling Fe­de­ration, na papayagan nilang makasali ang mga Filipino riders sa biennial event dahil hindi ito bahagi ng UCI calendar at hindi na rin mangangailangan ng accreditation.

Dahilan rito, nagdaos na ng consultation mee­tings ang SEAG Federation at kinatigan ang POC.

“The Philippine Olympic Committee sin­cer­ely expresses its appreciation to the SEA Games Federation. This is a classic display of uni­ty for our region and I sincerely hope that we can return the favor at some future time,” ani POC president Jose C­ojuangco, Jr.

Ang appeal letter ay idinirekta kay UCI President Pat McQuiad at idiniretso na sa UCI headquarters sa Laussane, Switzerland.
