MANILA, Philippines - Sakaling maging matagumpay ang laban ng Philippine Team sa New Zealand sa Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone Group II third round tie, tatlong malalaking torneo sa California, USA ang lalahukan ni Cecil Mamiit.

Tatlong ATP Challengers Cup ang nakalatag sa California na siyang maaaring gamitin ng 33-anyos na Fil-Am netter para makalikom ng puntos patungo sa paglalaro sa mas mataas na Australian Open.

"After this Davis Cup, hopefully, I could play in the Australian Open," ani Mamiit. "Obviously, as a professional that's what we're here for, to try to play in the Grand Slam tournaments like the Australian Open."

Makaraang umakyat sa professional scene noong 1996, pitong ITF (International Tennis Federation) titles na ang nakopo ni Mamiit.

Noong Oktubre 11, 1999, narating ni Mamiit, isang two-time Southeast Asian Games singles champion, ang pinakamataas niyang individual ranking sa ATP Tour bilang No. 72 sa buong mundo.

Ang panalo ng Nationals sa Kiwis, itatapat sina Adam Thompson, G.D. Jones, Mikal Statham, Daniel King-Turner at Jose Statham, ang mag-aakay sa bansa sa Group I ng Davis Cup na huling nangyari noong 2008 kung saan sila natalo sa Japan (0-5), Uzbekistan (2-3) at Kazakhstan (0-5) pababa sa Group II.
