Si Mamiit agad ang sasabak vs Pakistan

MANILA, Philippines - Tatangkain ni Fil-Am Cecil Mamiit na maibigay ang maagang panalo at momentum para sa Cebuana Lhuillier-RP team sa paghohost nila sa Pakistan sa Asia Oceania Group II Davis Cup tie na magsisimula bukas sa Philippine Columbian Association tennis courts.

Si Mamiit ang inaasa-hang magdadala sa kanyang koponan sa tagum-pay laban sa Pakistan tulad ng bitbitin niya ang Philippines sa 3-1 panalo laban sa Hong Kong noong Marso.

Tinalo ni Mamiit, ang back-to-back gold medal winner sa SEA Games, si Martin Sayer, 3-12 nang iselyo niya ang tagumpay laban sa karibal na Hong Kong.

Sinabi ni team captain Chris Cuarto na si Mamiit ang lalaro sa unang singles match ngunit hindi pa alam kung sino naman ang sa isa pang singles match.

Ang laban ay magsisi-mula sa alas-3 ng hapon.

“You all know Cecil will be playing the first singles match but for the other singles player, we’re still trying to sort it out,” ani Cuarto.

Susuporta kay Mamiit sina Patrick John Tierro, Treat Conrad Huey at junior standout Francis Casey Alcantara. 

Para sa doubles, sasandal din si Cuarto kay Mamiit at posibleng ipares sa kanya si Huey o Alcantara, kung saan sinabi nitong may karanasan sa dubles play.

“I think both of them (Huey and Alcantara) have their own strong points. It all depends on how they jive with Cecil, that’s a big factor. Cecil can set it up and maybe one of them can try to finish off. That’s the factor I’m considering,” ani Cuarto.

Gayunpaman, pa-kumbaba naman si Mamiit sa kanyang papel na gagampanan at imbes ay sinabi nitong huwag maliitn ang kakayahan ng mga kakampi.

“ I don’t think I have to tell them anything else because they definitely have the talent. They worked hard to get to this level,” aniya.
