6-man RP boxers sali sa King's Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Ipapadala ng Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines ang anim na Pinoy boxers na babanderahan ni Asian Games gold medalists Joan Tipon sa 31st King’s Cup sa Abril 3-10 sa Bangkok, Thailand.

Humatak ng pinakamahuhusay na amateur boxers sa mundo ang torneo at ang ABAP na pinamumunuan ni telecommunications tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan at Ricky Vargas ay umaasa kina bantamweight Tipon (54 kg.), light flyweight Gerson Nietes (54 kg.), flyweight Aston Francis Palicte (51 kg.), featherweight Charly Suarez (57 kg.), lightweight Joegen Ladon (60 kg.), at light welter-weight Genebert Basadre (64 kg.).

Si Tipon ay naghari sa 2008 Doha Asian Games, habang si Nietes naman, pamangkin ng world title holder na si Donnie Nietes, kasama sina Palicte at Suarez ay pawang mga beterano ng World Championship.

Naisalba ni Ladon ang gold medal sa China Asian Boxing Championship, at si Basadre ay nakatapak sa semifinals ng Doha Games.

Makakasama nila sina coaches Ronald Chavez at Cuban Dagoberto Rojas Scott at International Referee/Judge Dante de Castro at Jesus San Esteban.

Si ABAP executive director Ed Picson ang lider ng RP delegation.
