LOS ANGELES, California -- Patuloy sa pananalasa ang Filipino Grandmaster na si Rogelio ‘Joey’ Antonio Jr., sa Amerika matapos tanghaling overall champion sa 2008 Los Angeles Chess Club (LACC) Open Chess Championships, (New Year’s Day Open, Game 45 minutes) sa Santa Monica Boulevard noong Miyerkules dito.

Matapos makipagdraw kay Jeremy Stein sa first round, tinalo ni 12-time National Open Champion sina Ronald Morris, IM Emory Tate, William Pennucci at Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., ayon sa pagkakasunod upang makopo ang titulo sa kanyang total 4.5 points sa limang laro ng one-day event na inorganisa ni USCF Life Senior Master at Chess Instructor Mick Bighamian.

Nakuha ni IM Tate ang runner-up place matapos igupo si US Master Julian Landaw sa final round para sa kanyang 4.0 points at nagkasya sa third place si Bernardino matapos talunin si Robert Akopian sa tie break points makaraang magtapos ang dalawa sa magkatulad na 3.0 points.

Tinanghal na category winner sina William Pennucci (Top Under 2200) at Arnel Odero (Top Under 2000). Ang isa pang Pinoy na si Remigio Pampliega ay tumapos na may 2.0 points.

Nanalo din si Antonio sa 10th annual Joseph Lleto Memorial Open Chess Championship sa Montery Park nitong Disyembre, noong Nobyembre sa 2008 Motor City Open sa Universal Chess Club sa Auburn Hills, Michigan at 17th North American Fide Invitational sa Skokie, Illinois   noong Nobyembre, 2008 Los Angeles Open noong 8th Universal Annual Swiss Chess Open noong September at G/19 noong Oktubre.
