UV Green Lancers dili mo-apil sa 3rd VAAA

CEBU - Mahug nga walay defending champion ang ikatulong season sa Visayas Amateur Athletic Association (VAAA) men's basketball tournament gumikan kay ang University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers nihukom nga dili mosalmot sa liga nga tentatibong sugdan karong Nobiyembre 22 diha sa Cebu Coliseum.

"That is the recommendation of Sir Didi (Gullas) and I approved it for the reason that he's the one in charge of the Green Lancers," matud pa ni UV president Eduardo 'Eddiegul' R. Gullas, kinsa wala na moyagyag pa sa hinungdan sa kalit nilang pag-atras sa VAAA.

Ang gipasabot ni Eddiegul mao ang iyang anak nga si Gerald Anhony 'Didi' S. Gullas, ang team manager sa UV Green Lancers nga nagsilbi sab nga assistant vice-president for finance and administration sa nahisgutang unibersidad.

"What the Green Lancers are today, it's because of Didi. Whatever his decisions are, I will support it," dugang pa ni Eddiegul.

Gipasabot ni Gullas nga ang UV misalmot sa VAAA sa miaging tuig tungod sa pipila ka mga hinungdan.

"We joined the VAAA last year out of spite for the CESAFI," saysay ni Gullas. "When our player (Morsie Akad) suffered a knee injury during the Partner's Cup, UV spent a substantial amount for his hospital bills but the CESAFI gave only a very small amount."

Midugang si Gullas nga sa dihang gipahigayon ang VAAA, human na ang CESAFI season niadtong tungora ug alang kanila ang VAAA makahatag og dugang exposure sa ilang players.

"Lastly, Sir Didi listened to the clamor of the Cebuano basketball fans, who want to see the Green Lancers play against the other teams from the Visayas region. These are all the valid reasons why we can't say no to VAAA last year," pasabot pa ni Gullas.

Si VAAA founder ug legendary coach Raul 'Yayoy' D. Alcoseba nagdumili paghatag og komentaryo sa desisyon sa UV.

Duha ka semana ang milabay, ang CESAFI Board mipasar og resolusyon pagbabag sa mga miyembro niining tunghaan pag-apil sa VAAA.

Bisan pa man niini, daghan gihapong CESAFI teams ang mipadayag sa ilang interes nga moduwa sa VAAA. Apan si CESAFI president Rolando Villa sa University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) mipahimangno ngadto sa nagkadaiyang school heads nga respetuon ang desisyon sa CESAFI Board. Mibahad si Villa nga pahamtangan og tukmang silot kun kinsa man gani ang makalapas sa lagda sa liga.  (BANAT NEWS)
