Donaire 'di magiging kumpiyansa

Kagaya ng kanyang mga nakaraang laban, hindi magiging kumpiyansa si world flyweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Jr. sa kanyang laban kay South African challenger Moruti Mthalane.

 Ayon sa 24-anyos na si Donaire, ang kasalukuyang flyweight king ng International Boxing Federation (IBF) at International Boxing Organization (IBO), isang agresibong fighter si Mthalane.

 “He’s in the fight, always ready. He always coming in, coming in throwing a lot of punches. He’s there to fight,” wika ni Donaire kahapon. “I’ve seen a few fights of his and he doesn’t mind getting hit. I’m not taking him lightly. 

Nakatakda ang ikalawang sunod na title defense ng tubong General Santos City kay Mthalane sa Nobyembre 1 sa Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino sa Las Vegas, Nevada.  

 Sa kanyang unang pagdedepensa ng IBF at IBO flyweight crowns na inagaw niya kay Armenian Vic Darchinyan via fifth-round TKO noong Hulyo 7 ng 2007, umiskor si Donaire ng isang ninth-round TKO kay Mexican challenger Luis Maldonado noong Disyembre 1 ng 2007 sa Mashantucket, Connecticut.

 Ibabandera ni Donaire, nakabase sa San Leandro, California, ang 19-1 win-loss ring record kasama ang 12 KOs, samantalang tangan naman ng 29-anyos na si Mthalane ang 22-1 (15 KOs) card.

 Sakaling maging matagumpay ang kanyang ikalawang title defense kay Mthalane, balak naman ni Donaire na umakyat sa super flyweight division kung saan naghahari sina Christian Mijares at Darchinyan. (Russell Cadayona)
