NSAC ang magdedesisyon

Ang magiging desisyon na lamang ng Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) ang magiging hadlang para sa sinasabing paghaharap nina Filipino world four-division champion Manny Pacquiao at Venezuelan fighter Edwin Valero.

Inihayag kahapon ni Bob Arum ng Top Rank Promotions na nagka-usap na sila ng kampo ni Valero, isang matinding knockout artist, para sa paghahamon nito kay Pacquiao sa lightweight division.

Matapos maagaw kay Mexican-American David Diaz ang suot nitong World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight crown via ninth-round TKO noong Linggo, isa ang pangalan ni Valero sa mga napag-usapan.

Ngunit bago mangyari ang pagdedepensa ng 29-anyos na si Pacquiao sa kanyang hawak na WBC lightweight belt, sinabi ng NSAC na kailangan munang isumite ni Valero, may 24-0-0 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 24 KOs, ang kanyang medical records.

“The Commission has not received any medicals on Mr. Valero,” wika ni NSAC executive director Keith Kizer. “When the Commission does they will be reviewed in due course.”

Inaasahang ihahayag ni Arum, nakipag-usap sa Japanese manager ni Valero na si Akihiko Honda, ang Pacquiao-Valero lightweight championship fight sa mga susunod na linggo.

“We pretty much reached an agreement between us and would be drawing up an agreement very shortly and hope to announce the fight in a few weeks,” ani Arum. “But everything is a go.”

Matapos ang isang motorcycle accident noong 2001, nagkaroon ng brain surgery si Valero na nagtulak sa NSAC na huwag itong bigyan ng fight license sa United States noong 2004. (RC)
