2 shooting tourney sa paghahanda ni Ang para sa Beijing Olympics

Bago sumabak sa 2008 Olympic Games sa Beijing, China, dalawang international shooting tournaments ang nakatakdang lahukan ni national trap shooter Eric Ang sa Hunyo.

Ito, ayon sa Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA), ay ang mga World Cup championships sa Germany at Serbia na puputok sa Hunyo, dalawang buwan bago kumampanya si Ang sa Beijing Games sa Agosto 4-24.

“His stints in Germany and Serbia serve as the last phase of his training program,” wika ni Gay Corral, secretary-general ng shooting association, kay Ang. 

Kasalukuyan ngayong nagsasanay si Ang sa kanyang sariling shooting range sa Laoag at bumibiyahe sa Manila para sa isang 10-day training regimen bawat buwan, dagdag ng PNSA official sa Olympian.

“Eric is actually training on his own in the family’s range in Laoag, but he is also being obliged by the association to go to Manila for a 10-day training regimen each month,” ani Corral.  

Ang 37-anyos na si Ang ang pinakahuling Filipino athlete na nakakuha ng Olympic ticket matapos gawaran ng international shooting federation ng wildcard entry.

Tumapos si Ang, bahagi men’s trap team na kumuha ng silver medal sa 24th Southeast Asian Games sa Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand noong 2007, bilang 24th sa kabuuang 92 shooters na lumahok sa pre-Olympic shooting tournament sa Beijing matapos kapusin ng isang puntos sa qualifying mark sa 2007 Asian Shooting Championships sa Kuwait.

Ang iba pang may Olympic berth na ay sina swimmers Miguel Molina, J. B. Walsh, Daniel Coakley, Ryan Arabejo at Christel Simms, divers Sheila Mae Perez at Ryan Fabriga, boxer Harry Tañamor, taekwondo jins Tshomlee Go at Toni Rivero at archer Mark Javier.(Russell Cadayona)
