Tipon, 4 pa susubok uli ng Olympic berths

Inihayag na ng Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines ang line-up ng RP-PLDT-Smart Boxing Team na lalahok sa 2nd at last Olympic Qualifying tournament sa Astana, Kazakhstan sa March 16 -24.

Nagdesisyon ang ABAP coaching staff sa pangunguna nina Cuban coaches Enrique Steyners Tissert, Dagoberto Rojas Scott, ABAP Sports Psychologist Dr. Francis Sta. Maria na pangungunahan ni Doha Asian Games bantam-weight gold medalist Joan Tipon ang 5 man team. Si Asian Jr. Champion Orlando Tacuyan Jr. ang lalaban sa 57 kg featherweight class, Doha Asian Games Bronze medallists lightweight Genebert Basadre  sa 60kg. at last minute replacement na si flyweight Godfrey Castro kapalit ng injured na si Violito Payla sa 51kg ayon sa pagkakasunod at Delfin Boholst sa welterweight class.

“The ABAP is 100% committed to send only the best and most qualified boxer to represent our country for the qualifying tournament. We hope and expect to qualify 2 more boxers to join Harry Tanamor in our quest for the Olympic Gold in Beijing,” ani ABAP President Manny T. Lopez.
