12-golds nilangoy ni Castelo

Lumangoy si Gabriel Castelo ng Pasig City swam ng 12 gold medals kabilang ang 11 triple A swims para maging best performer sa National Capital Region Qualifying Leg ng 2nd Philippine Olympic Festival na nagbukas kahapon sa Rizal Sports Complex.

Nanguna ang 12-anyos na si Castelo sa 50-meter, 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m freestyle, 100m at 200m back, 200m at 400m individual medley, 100m at 200m butterfly at 100m breaststroke.

May triple A performance ito sa 50m, 100m, 200m at 400m freestyle, 100m at 200m back, 200m at 400m IM, 100m and 200m butterfly at 100m breaststroke na nagkaloob sa kanya ng awtomatikong slot sa National Finals  sa Manila sa Nov. 12.

“So far, so good,”  ani POF and Philippine Olympic Committee chair Robert Aventajado,  na kasama ni POC president Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco at iba pang National Sports Association officials na nanguna sa pagbubukas ng five-day meet.

Ang kahusayan ni Castelo ang nagtulak sa Pasig sa second place overall na may 19 gold medals, sa likod ng 29 pool gold medals ng nangungunang Quezon City.

Nagparamdam naman ang Manila na  may walong golds sa  morning events ng five-day meet na naglalayong makadiskubre ng mga bagong talento para sanayin na maging  future national team members. (JOEY VILLAR)
