Ginto kina Tacuyan at Suarez

CAGAYAN DE ORO City -- Isang 19-anyos na tubong Angeles City at isang 30-anyos na nagbabalik na international campaigner ang nagpakitang-gilas sa pagsasara ng 2007 Smart National Open Boxing Championships dito.

Umiskor si Orlando Tacuyan, Jr. ng isang 51-43 win kontra kay national training pool member Charlie Suarez ng Davao del Norte-A para angkinin ang gold medal sa featherweight division, habang si Larry Semillano naman ang naghari sa welterweight class nang talunin si Wilfredo Lopez ng Pacific Heights, 32-19.

“Pangarap ko talagang maging member ng national team. Hopefully, makasama ako sa team for the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand,” sabi ng 5-foot-9 na si Tacuyan, anak ng isang dating national boxer, kinilalang Most Outstanding Boxer ng naturang weeklong boxfest at tumalo kay 2006 Asian Games gold medalist Joan Tipon sa eliminasyon.

Tatlong ginto naman ang sinuntok ng Philippine Army galing kina 2006 Asian Games gold medalist flyweight Violito Payla, bantamweight Godfrey Castro at heavyweight Maximo Tabangcora.

Ginapi ni Payla si Rey Saludar via RSC sa huling 19 segundo ng third round, samantalang tinalo ni Castro si Larry Abarra ng Olongapo City mula sa isang RSC sa 1:18 ng third round at giniba ni Tabangcora si Marlon Golez ng Philippine Army-B buhat sa RSC-O sa third round. (R.Cadayona)
