Sa kabila ng hindi pa pagpirma ni Mexican boxing legend Marco Antonio Barrera sa fight contract, kumpiyansa si Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum na matutuloy ang rematch nito kay Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao.
“The chances are very good,” wika kahapon ni Arum hinggil sa itatakdang Pacquiao-Barrera II sa Oktubre 6 sa Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino sa Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ito ang ikalawang banggaan ng 28-anyos na si Pacquiao at ng 33-anyos na si Barrera mata-pos pasukuin ni “Pacman” ang “Baby-Faced Assa-sin” sa 11th round ng kani-lang “People’s Featherweight Championship noong Nobyembre ng 2003 sa Alamodome sa San Antonio, Texas.
Katuwang ng Top Rank ang Golden Boy Promotions ni Oscar Dela Hoya sa pagpo-promote ng Pacquiao-Barrera II.
“Now that we’re talking and we’re both really good business people, (Richard) Schaefer and myself, there’s no reason not to make these fights that we were fussing around about,” wika ni Arum.
Sa kanilang kasun-duan, magiging co-promoter sina Arum at Dela Hoya sa mga laban ni Pacquiao, ang kasalukuyang World Boxing Council (WBC) International super featherweight champion, sa Golden Boy.
Nawala sa ulo ni Barrera ang dating suot na WBC crown matapos matalo kay Juan Manuel Marquez noong Marso.
“Everything is patched up and we’re going to be working together in the future on a lot of ventures,” ani Arum sa dati niyang alagang si Dela Hoya. “I’m looking to the future, the past is forgotten and I think we can do a lot of great things together.” (RC)
