Basadre, Joven umusad sa semis

Dalawang Filipino boxers na sina lightweight Genebert Basadre at welterweight Francis Joven ang nakapasok sa semifinals ng Tammer Cup International Boxing Championship sa Tampere, Finland.

Tinalo ng Manila Southeast Asian Games gold medalist na si Basadre si Miklos Varga ng Hungary, 28-23, habang dinispatsa naman ni Joven si Nkodo Foster Marcelin ng Cameroon, 17-11.‘

Ayon kay Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines president Manny T. Lopez, ang event na ito ang susukat ng kahandaan ng mga boxers na sasabak sa Asian Games na gaganapin sa Doha, Qatar sa December 1-15.

Nakatakda ring umakyat sa lona sina lightflyweight Violito Payla, bantamweight Joan Tipon at lightwelterweight Delfin Boholst na hangad ding makapasok sa semifinals.

Tanging si featherweight Anthony Marcial pa lamang ang nalalagas sa RP squad na suportado ng International Olympic Solidarity Movement, Philippine Sports Commission at Pacific Heights matapos itong yumukod kay Ali Hallab ng France sa isang referee-stopped-contest (RSC) sa ikatlong round.

Samantala, nagdesisyon ang  ABAP na tanggalin sa Asiad bound RP boxing team ang bemedalled  pug na si  Harry Tanamor bilang disciplinary action at pipili ng kapalit mula sa nito mula sa national training pool.

Hindi sumisipot sa training  at hindi sumama sa RP Team na kumakampanya sa kasalukuyang Tammer Cup sa Finland si Tanamor.

Ito ang naging desisyon ng asosasyon matapos konsultahin ang coaching staff at rebisahin ang report ngABAP sports psychologist Dr. Francis Santamaria.
