Hong Kong trip ng gold medalists karapat-dapat lang

Hindi maituturing na isang luho ang pagbibigay ng First Gentleman’s Foundation ng isang three-day vacation trip sa Hong Kong Disneyland sa 206 gold medalists ng nakaraang 23rd Southeast Asian Games.

Sinabi ni National Training Director Mike Keon na dapat lamang na ibigay sa naturang mga gold medal winners ang nararapat.

"You have to understand that we haven’t done enough of this. And this is the first time that the Philippines ever won the Southeast Asian Games. Siyempre, these athletes deserve the accolades and they deserve all the benefits that can be given to them," wika ni Keon.

Pinahalagahan ni Keon, dating National Director ng nabuwag nang Project: Gintong Alay, ang paggiya ng mga atleta sa Team Philippines sa pagiging overall champion sa 2005 SEA Games.

"I’m not sure that we can repeat winning the Southeast Asian Games again in the near future because the hometown advantage has a big influence," wika ni Keon.

Ang Thailand ang siyang mamamahala sa 24th SEA Games sa 2007.

Maliban sa naturang biyahe sa Hong Kong Disneyland, tumanggap rin ang mga gold medal winners ng cash incentives mula sa Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) sa pamamagitan ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo noong Huwebes sa Malacañang.

Base sa Republic Act 9064, ang gold medal winner sa individual event ng SEA Games ay tatanggap ng P100,000, samantalang P50,000 at P10,000 naman ang sa silver at bronze medalists, ayon sa pagkakasunod. (Russell Cadayona)
