Pagsabak ni Lucero sa 23rd SEAG naudlot

Nawala na ang pag-asa ni dating national gymnast at taekwondo jin Bea Lucero-Lhuillier na mapasama sa Philippine wushu team para sa 23rd Southeast Asian Games.

Ito ay matapos ihayag ni Wushu Federation Philippines (WFP) presi-dent Julian Camacho na hindi na mapapabilang si Lucero-Lhuillier sa natio-nal squad.

Ayon kay Camacho, nagkaroon ng injury ang katambal ni Lucero-Lhuil-lier sa choreographed sparring ng quiangshu event ng wushu na naging dahilan ng pagkaka-tanggal sa dating gym-nast at taekwondo jin.

"It was unfortunate for Bea since she has been training hard to be able to compete in the wushu event of the 2005 South-east Asian Games in November," sabi ni Camacho.

Si Lucero-Lhuillier ang gold medalist sa gym-nastics noong 1985 at 1987 SEA Games at sa taekwondo noong 1991 SEA Games na idinaos sa Maynila.

Sa kabila ng pagka-wala ni Lucero-Lhuillier sa tropa, kumpiyansa na-man ang wushu federa-tion na malalambat nila ang 10 hanggang 12 gin-tong medalya sa 2005 SEA Games.

"Handang-handa na ang mga athletes natin para sa 2005 SEA Games," wika ni WFP secretary-general Edwin Pimentel sa mga wushu artists. "They trained in China for four months and I’m sure it will help them in their respective events."

Sa 2003 Vietnam SEA Games, nag-uwi ng anim na gold medals ang WFP mula kina Arvin Ting (gunshu at daoshu), Willy Wang (quiangshu at jianshu), Dolly Andres (52 kg. sanshu) at Edward Folayang (70 kg. sanshu). (Russell Cadayona)
