Kapwa bumagsak sina Gretchen Abaniel at Mitchell Martinez kontra sa mga mas eksperyensadong kalaban sa 3rd World Women’s Boxing Championships sa Podolsk, Russia para magkasya lamang sa bronze medal.

Nadiskaril si Abaniel sa kanyang kampanya sa gintong medalya matapos lumasap ng kabiguan sa North Korean na si Jong Ok sa nakapanghihinayang na 20-22 points decision sa kanilang 46-kg. bout.

Hindi naman nakaporma si Martinez, kontra kay Tatar Gulsum ng Turkey sa kanilang 60-kg match sa nakakahiyang 26-42 kabiguan.

Bagamat sinikap ni Martinez, gold medalist sa Asian Women’s Boxing Championships na ginanap sa Taipei sa taong ito, hindi nito nakayanan ang husay ng Turkish boxer.
