Maaasahan din ng ginto ang divers

Ipinakita ng Philippine diving team na maaasa-han din sila pagdating ng 23rd Southeast Asian Games na itatanghal ng bansa sa November 27 hanggang December 5 matapos mag-uwi ng dalawang silvers at tatlong bronze mula sa 7th Asian diving cham-pionships na ginanap sa Chenzhou City, Hunan Province sa China kama-kailan lamang.

Pinangunahan nina Sydney Olympic veterans Zardo Domenios at Sheila Mae Perez ang mga RP divers matapos puma-ngalawa sa kani-kanilang events na dinomina ng diving powerhouse China at guest teams mula sa Australia at Mexico.

Nakipagtulungan si Domenios kay Niño Ca-rog sa men's 3-meter springboard synchro duo, upang talunin ang SEA Games rival na Malaysia para sa silver.

Ang women's 3-meter synchro pair nina Perez at Cesell Domenios ang nakakuha ng silver medal.

Nakakuha din si Perez ng bronze sa women's 1-meter event at 3-meter springboard.

"It really boosted the morale of the team. Defi-nitely, our divers will get a lot of attention come the SEA Games. We intend to send them to at least two more tournaments ab-road," sabi ni Atty. Maria Luz Arzaga-Mendoza, ang Philippine Swimming Association media direc-tor at legal counsel.

Ang iba pang miyem-bro ng koponan ay sina Ryan Fabriga, fourth sa men's Platform event; national junior champion Kevin Kong, Ralph Ron-nel Deliarte, Andrea Ra-fanan at US NCAA ECAC springboard champion Victor Paguia, Jr. sa ilalim ng Chinese diving coach legend na si Zhang Dehu katulong sina Rommel Kong at Lourence Ifurong.

Dalawa pang tune-up meets ang lalahukan ng koponan bago ihayag ang final line-up sa SEA Games.

Ang diving competition ay gaganapin sa Trace Aquatic Center sa Los Baños, Laguna sa Nov. 27-30.
