Goma, lalaro sa SEA Games

Kahit pa dalawa ang sasalihang sports events ni actor-sportman Richard Gomez ay walang magi-ging problema.

"Ang pinagtalunan kasi ay kung puwedeng sumali si Richard Gomez sa dalawang magkaibang events," ani Mario Tan-changco ng sepak takraw sa nangyaring usapan kahapon ng Task Force SEA Games. "Wala na-mang problema doon kung nag-qualify siya sa mga eliminations nila."

Pinatotohanan naman ni Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA) secretary-general Ramon Corral ang pag-entra ng 6-foot-2 na si Gomez sa kanilang national practical shooting team.

"Actually, he placed No. 2 sa practical shooting eliminations na ginawa namin a few weeks ago," wika ni Corral kay Gomez. "I think he has a good chance of bagging a gold in his event because he trained in Beijing, Korea for this."

Maliban sa shooting, kasama rin si Gomez sa national squad ng Philip-pine Amateur Fencing Association (PAFA).

"This is a problem that was brought up in the meeting," ani Corral. "They (Task Force) want to be sure na papayag ang Southeast Asian Games Council na dala-wang events ang salihan ni Richard Gomez."

Bukod sa shooting at fencing, naglaro rin si Gomez sa rowing at archery.

Ang 32-anyos na si Gomez ay miyembro ng men’s epee team na nag-uwi ng gintong medalya sa nakaraang edisyon ng SEA Games sa Vietnam noong 2003.

"Ang magiging prob-lema lang ni Richard sa SEA Games ay ‘yung scheduling of events. Pero kung kaya naman niya, okay lang," ani Tanchangco. (Russell Cadayona)
