Wescor sumungkit ng 3 gintong medalya

Sumungkit ng tatlong gintong medalya ang WESCOR Trans-former Corp. malakas na bumalik sa kontensiyon para sa overall team race sa kalagitnaan ng First Philippine Velo Challenge sa Amoranto Velodrome sa Quezon City.

Dinomina ng Wescor riders ang 4,800-meter massed start races sa Executives (Edilberto Lantin, eight minutes at 2.08 se-conds), Veterans (Ruel Gendrano, 7:38.65), at Juniors (Irish Valenzuela, 6:54.97) sa ikaliamg araw ng 10 race days na co-presented ng First Gentleman’s Foundation of Atty. Jose Miguel Arroyo at Air21 (Sagot Ko, Padala Mo!)-Tour Pilipinas Inc.

Pang No. 4 at may hinaha-wakang 25 puntos sa likuran ng nangungunang Elixir Bike Shop sa pagpasok ng kompetensiya kahapon, nakalikom ang Wescor ng 144 puntos na nagbigay-daan sa mga riders ni PhilCycling chairman Loloy Cruz na malu-sutan ang MayniLA at Quezon city at kunin ang solong ikalawang puwesto sa event na suportado din ng Pagcor and the Philippine Sports Commission at Philippine Olympic Committee.

Ang Elixir na humakot ng apat na gintong medalya kahapon ay may naipon ng 157 puntos para manatiling nasa unahan ng six-team field ng Velo Challenge na suportado ng Isuzu D-Max (Philippines‚ No. 1 Pickup), Sharp Phils., San Miguel Corp.-Viva Mineral Water, Vittoria Tires, 93.9 iFM, RMN dzXL 558, David’s Salon at Intrasports.

Namuno ang Elixir sa Elite men’s 4,800-meter massed start (Carlo Jasul, 6:48.8), Elite women’s 4,800-meter massed start (Marites Bitbit, 8:14.74), Veterans 2,000-meter individual pursuit (Gerardo Amar, 2:51.71) at Executives/Masters/Veterans Olympic sprint (Frederick Chua, Mike Canete at Peter Samayo sa bilis na 1:32.32 seconds).

Naorasan naman si Virgilio Valenzuela ng Puerto Princesa City ng best time na 7:46.7 sa Masters‚ 4,800-meter massed start; nanguna naman si Paterno Curtan Jr. ng Quezon City, sa Elite men’s 4,000 meter individual pursuit 5:23.53 seconds at ang kakamping si Erickson Obosa, ang nanaig sa Elite men’s elimi-nations race, para makumpleto ang Day-Five winners.

Nanatiling hawak ng Quezon city ang ikatlong puwesto sa team standings na may 133 points, kasunod ang dating No. 2 na MayniLA (127), Puerto Princesa (116) at Tagatay International Convention Center (64).
