Colis, Valle at Esposo nagpakitang-gilas

Naglabas ng kani-kanilang maningning na porma sina Kirby Colis ng Navy at PNP’s Rodel Valle at Julius Esposo ng UST upang walisin ang kani-kanilang kalaban kahapon sa pagsisimula ng ‘Battle of the Champions’ ng first LG Table Tennis age-group invitational championships sa Glorietta Activity Center sa Makati.

Tinalo ni Colis ang TATAP bet na si Edward Ramos, 11-5, 11-3, 11-1, pinayukod ni Valle si Martin Diaz habang nasilat naman ni Esposo si Angelo Marcelino, 11-6, 11-2, 11-6 upang pamunuan ang round of 32 winners ng mga miyembro ng men’s national team.

Nauna rito, dinaluhan nina Philippine Olympic Committee president Celso Dayrit, LG president Jeff Hong, Sunny Eum, LG vice president for marketing, JB Bandol, LG marketing manager, Rep. Gerry Sallipudin at TATAP (Table Tennis Association of the Phils) president Vic Valbuena ang opening ng event na ito na sinaksihan ng maraming manonood.

Ang iba pang nagwagi rin na sumandig sa extra sets upang makausad sa event na ito na magsisilbing isa sa highlights ng tournament ay sina Ronald Santos, Leonard de Leon at Rudolf Palermo.

Ginapi ni Santos, lumaro sa Nueva Ecija Table Tennis Club si Sherwin Remata ng Candelaria, 11-6, 11-4, 9-11, 11-9; namayani si De Leon kay Gylor Villar, 11-6, 10-12, 11-7, 11-6, habang nakipag-matigasan naman si Paler-mo sa kalabang si Percival Elfan at igupo ito sa iskor na 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7.

Sa women’s side, dinomina ni Sendrina Balatbat ang 15-anyos junior player ng College of St. Benilde ang kalabang si Annabel Comen-dador ng PCU, 6-11, 11-4, 11-7, 15-13 upang umusad sa susunod na round.
