Pinoy rowers sumagwan ng 4 na gintong medalya

Maningning na tinapos ng Filipino rowers ang taong ito sa pagsungkit ng apat na gintong medalya sa katatapos pa lamang na Asian Rowing Federation championships sa West Lake, Hanoi, Vietnam.

Pinangunahan ng Busan Asian Games bronze medalists Alvin Amposta at Nestor Cordova ang pag-sweep ng Filipinos sa apat na events na kanilang nilahukan sa tatlong araw na kompetisyon na sinalihan rin ng mga rowers mula sa Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand at host Vietnam.

Nagtala sina Amposta at Cordova ng anim na minuto at 57.89 segundo upang igupo ang Vietnamese duo na sina Do Manh Tung at Nguyen Tuan Anh (7:02.44) at ang pareha ng Thailand’s na sina Anupong Thainjam at Ruthanapol Teppibal (7:05.66) sa men’s lightweight double sculls event.

Ang iba pang RP gold medalists ay sina Jose Rodriguez sa men’s lightweight single scull, Rodriguez at Olympian Benjamin Tolentino sa men’s double sculls at Jairus Miron, Mark Anthony Galvez, Nilo Cordova at Rowell Tolentino sa men’s lightweight coxless fours.

Si Rodriguez ay nagposte ng oras na 7:39.15 upang pangunahan sina Nguyen Van Nguyen ng Vietnam (7:43.79) at Myanmar’s Li Khint Maung Yi (7:58.87) sa single scull bago nakipagtambal kay Tolentino sa tiyempong 6:52.95 upang walisin ang Vietnam’s pair nina Nguyen Van Nguyen at Nguyen Tuan Anh (6:57.34) at Indonesia’s tandem Tofan at Anang Maung Vi (7:10.01) sa double sculls.

Sina Miron at ang kanyang mga kasama ay tumapos ng 6:42.76 upang silatin ang Vietnamese (6:43.43) at ang Indons (7:46.84) sa coxless fours.
