MYG inaasahang magiging matagumpay

Naamoy na ng organizers ng Manila Sports Council ang tagumpay ng magtatanghal ng kauna-unahang Manila Youth Games (MYG).

"The turnout is really amazing. Right from the early days when the registry books were opened, we started to anticipate a big turnout," ani Arnold "Ali" Atienza, chairman ng MASCO, ang sports arm ng Manila City Hall.

Sa ngayon, may 250 teams na binubuo ng 2,500 atleta ang nagpalista na at halos lahat ng 100 barangay zones sa anim na congressional districts ng Manila ay kakatawan sa MYG sa makasaysayang Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Ang MYG na kumuha ng buong suporta mula sa Philippine Sports Commission sa pakikipagtulungan ng PAGCOR, WG&A Super Ferry, Smart Communications, Peak Taekwondo Equipment, Victor Sports at PC-One Computers, ay magbibigay ng tsansa sa mga batang may edad 12 anyos pababa.

Ang isang linggong palaro ay magsisimula sa Linggo, Abril 7 sa Rizal Memorial Track Stadium at ang aktuwal na laban ng laro ay sa Lunes.

Lalaruin ang 12 sports sa MYG na kinabibilangan ng athletics, badminton, chess, dancesports, football, gymnastics, softball, swimming, table tennis, lawn tennis, taekwondo at volleyball.

Mga certified technical officials mula sa iba’t ibang National Sports Association ang nahilingang mamahala ng kompetisyon, ayon kay Atienza na isang gold medal winner noong 1995 Asian Taekwondo championships.
