BAP nakatakdang balasahin

Inihayag kahapon ni Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) president Manny Lopez ang pagbalasa ng pambansang koponan.

Bunga ng nakakahiyang kampanya sa nakaraang Southeast Asian Games kung saan walang nakuhang gintong medalya ang bansa sa naturang sports, 13-boxers ang sinibak sa National team.

Ito ang napagdesisyunan ng coaching staff matapos ang ilang serye ng delibirasyon.

"The changes are just part of the steps we are taking for us to regain our glory days in boxing," pahayag ni Lopez na naging panauhin kahapon sa lingguhang PSA Forum na ginaganap sa Holiday Inn Manila.

Kabilang sa 13 na tinanggal sa Pambansang koponan ay ang apat na Olympian na kinabibilangan nina Elias Recaido (Atlanta 1996), Reynaldo Galido, Danilo at Arlan Lerio (2000 Sydney).

Maging ang mga coach na sina Alex Arroyo at Orlando Tacuyan ay papalitan din. Sina Leopoldo Cantancio at Leopoldo Serrantes ang makakasama ng mga head coaches na sina George Caliwan, Nolito Velasco at Pat Gaspi.

Pumalit naman sa nabakanteng puwesto sina pinweight Juanito Magliquian, lightfly Harry Tanamor at Lyven Salazar, flyweight Violito Payla, bantam Vincent Palicte, feather Roel Laguna at Ramil Zambales, lightweight Anthony Iguzquiza at Larry Semillano, light-welter Romeo Brin, light middle Maximo Tabangcura at middleweight Maraon Goles.

May 11 boxers na ipinadala sa nakaraang SEA Games na ginanap sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ngunit sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon ay walang nakuhang gold medal ang bansa.
