MOA sa pagitan ng PBL at UAAP sususpindihin ng board

Posibleng suspindihin ng University Athletics Association of the Philippines ang kanilang memorandum of Agreement sa Philippine Basketball League kung hindi babaguhin ng Malacañang ang desisyon ng Games and Amusement Board sa pagdedeklarang isang professional league ang PBL.

Ito ang pahayag kahapon ni UAAP president Anton Montinola host ng Far Eastern University na panauhin sa PSA Forum na lingguhang ginaganap sa Holiday Inn Manila Pavillion kahapon kasama sina Asian Basketball Academy president Chot Reyes at NBA referee Darell Garretson.

"If the PBL can’t get a favorable decision from the Palace, then we might as well suspend our MOA with them. The PBL is doing it’s best to help many college cagers hone their skills top prepare them for the big leagues like the PBA and MBA. But as much as we want to let our players play in the PBL and maybe earn an extra cash, we might be forced to let our players choose because it’s hard to reconcile an amateur league to a professional one," ani Montinola.

Kaugnay nito, sinabi na-man ni Garretson na mas mataas na kalidad ng officiating ang maasahan sa UAAP na magbubukas sa Hulyo 14 sa Araneta Coliseum dahil na rin sa kanyang pagtulong sa mga local referees na maayos na ipatupad ang mga rules ng basketball.

Dahil na rin sa problema sa officiating na dahilan ng maraming protesta sa mga laro, nagdesisyon ang UAAP ng kanilang officiating program sa tulong ni Garretson na kahit magbabalik na sa US ay mananatili pa rin itong nakatutok sa mga referees sa pamamagitan ng panonood ng mga laro sa Filipino channel.
