PBL Challenge Cup tumatanggap pa rin ng team

Sa kabila ng final na desisyon ng liga na walong koponan lamang ang puwedeng sumabak sa nalalapit na PBL Challenge Cup, nananatiling bukas pa rin ang kanilang pintuan para sa mga kumpanya o kaya’y koponan na may intensiyong sumali pa sa Philippine Basketball League.

"We have to follow the PBL board policy that the league will continue to maintain eight teams for the whole year until the league is stable enough and ready for expansion," paliwanag ni PBL Commissioner Chino Trinidad.

"But that doesn’t mean we’re closing our doors to other companies intending to join the league. Instead, we strongly recommend them to try the PYBL as a conduit," dagdag pa niya.

Ipinaliwanag pa ni Trinidad na ang PYBL ay dinisenyo upang mabigyan ng tamang exposure at magpapaangat sa potentials ng iba pang commercial o college teams.

" It’s actually the best thing for them to do. They could build a franchise in the PYBL to build a franchise and eventually form a very competitive team ready for the PBL regular conference," dagdag pa ni Trinidad.

Sa ngayon, anim na koponan pa lamang ang nabigyan ng siguradong slot para sa pagbubukas ng PYBL. Ito’y ang Tac Padilla’s Spring Cooking Oil, Manuel Luis Quezon University (MLQU), Guagua National Colleges, Assumption Colleges of Pampanga, Gringo Express at Las Piñas College.

Inihayag din ni Trinidad na nagbigay rin ng kumpirmasyon ang UAAP teams na Far Eastern University at ang National University na sumali sa PYBL.

Kabilang din sa kumakatok sa pinto ng PYBL ay ang Prudential Guarantee-San Sebas-tian at ang bagong NCAA champion College of St. Benilde.
