Group encourages Filipinos to buy local this Christmas

MANILA, Philippines - Thinking of something unique to give for Christmas? How about giving some local love?

On its second year of advocacy in bringing local produce of the Philippines closer to each Filipino home, Local Love Philippines promotes handwoven gift baskets with 30 homegrown goods from over 15 localities in the Philippines, such as Aklan, Bataan, Batangas, Benguet, Bulacan, Butuan, Cavite, Isabela, Kalinga, Laguna, Manila, Quezon, Rizal, Sorsogon, and others.

With an advocacy to let every Filipino value local by patronizing local, this social enterprise put together baskets of Filipino favorites such as cacao coffee brew, native rice, jams, wine, fruits, chips, and the like.

This year’s Backyard Basket Project honors backyard farmers all over the country and their homegrown, homemade produce.

With the belief that backyard farming is a sustainable way to food security, family farmers are empowered to grow their own food and share to the community the produce of their land and their hands.

For the coming holidays, the project has put together little baskets with plants, herbs, chips, rice, all grown in family backyards all over the Philippines.

Local Love’s advocacy is to bring the local produce of the Philippines closer to each Filipino home. The people behind Local Love have been to the country’s different provinces and have seen the vastness of its land, the depth of its oceans, the richness of its produce, the creativity of its people, the warmth of its embrace.

Local Love hopes that through its Christmas project, bridges are built on water and pathways are treaded, because Local Love is fostering a community of local-loving people.

Local Love Philippines is one with the nation in building stronger communities within its own. One way to do this is for Filipinos to value local produce which supports a sustainable community.

The advocacy is loud and clear: Let us all love local. Let us be Local Love.
