DMCI joins DENR greening program

MANILA, Philippines -  Out to make the world a better place to live, over 100 employees of DMCI Homes and DM Consunji Inc. (DMCI) recently planted 1,000 tree seedlings in a watershed area of Tanay, Rizal to kick off the property developers’ 60th anniversary campaign to plant 60,000 trees in the next two years.

The employees joined the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in planting coffee, cacao, malaapdo, lauan, jackfruit, guyabano, rambutan and other fruit and forest trees in a one-hectare property of San Andres Elementary School in Barangay San Andres, Tanay. DMCI also wants to contribute to the DENR’s National Greening Program, which aims to plant 1.5 billion trees during the Aquino presidency.

“With this simple act of helping restore the forests, future generations and businesses like ours will surely enjoy seeing a greener, happier and healthier neighborhood and enjoy breathing cleaner and fresher air,” said Antonette Atienza, DMCI Homes marketing officer.

“Since the area is also part of a watershed and prospective site of a planned dam, the additional trees will help maintain the supply of water for Rizal and Metro Manila,” noted DENR representative Julie Mustapha.

Aside from tree planting, DMCI Homes volunteers are also engaged in other environmental conservation and protection activities that include the multi-sectoral cleanup of a 1.63-km. stretch of Quezon City’s Pasong Tamo Creek. The creek runs through Stellar Place, a resort-style residential condominium community built by the triple A builder on Visayas Avenue, Quezon City.
