Former OFWs bag special awards

MANILA, Philippines - Three Pangasinenses who were former overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) bagged the 2013 Model OFW Family of the Year Award given by the Overseas Workers Administration (OWWA) Region 1 recently.

The awardees were Segundino Revita of Rosales town for the Model OFW Family of the Year category, Jose Soriano from Mangaldan, Special Award for Community Involvement and Heriberto Claudio from Bayambang, Special Award for Entrepreneurship.

Alex Ferrer, Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO) chief, said the provincial government has launched innovative projects focused on the welfare of the overseas workers.

Recently, the provincial government under Gov. Amado Espino, Jr. forged a partnership with the OWWA for the establishment of the OFW Family Federation in Pangasinan.

Espino also created about two years ago an OFW Center located at the PESO office manned by two regular desk officers to cater to the various needs of Pangasinan OFWs.
