Juancho Mahusay - The Philippine Star

CALAPAN CITY , Philippines   â€“ The Department of Education (DepEd) has adjudged the Oriental Mindoro National High School (OMNHS) as the best implementer of “Brigada Eskwela” in the country for the second year in a row.

According to OMNHS publication research unit head and Brigada Eskwela focal person Antonio Alido, OMNHS faculty, in coordination with the local government, non-government organizations (NGOs), parents and their children, and other civic groups, collected a total of P300,000 to be used for school repairs.

Meanwhile, the Malampaya Foundation Inc. (MFI), a private group funded by the Malampaya Natural Gas Project consortium, handed over school bags with school supplies to about 300 students of Wawa Elementary School in this city and assisted the school in the clean-up drive and repair of its facilities for about a week during the implementation of Brigada Eskwela.

MFI program manager Teddy Bolivar said this is an annual activity being implemented to uplift the young students’ welfare as well as the school. He added MFI is also continuing its support to other projects in Oriental Mindoro such as scholarships to technical-vocational students, fishery and agriculture sector support.

For their part, the Give More for Action and Charity or GMAC Foundation has chosen five poor but deserving students from every municipality, including this city, for their educational assistance program this school year, on top of continuing training support and seminars for chosen schools around Oriental Mindoro.

Foundation chairman and president Manny Mas stated they are bent on uplifting the level of literacy in the countryside.
