A lunch box a day for a better future

MANILA, Philippines - It’s hard to learn with an empty stomach. Department of Education data showed that for every 100 children who enroll in Grade 1, 20 drop out by the third grade – and hunger is one of the contributing factors.

Hunger and poor education are twin threats that challenge the growth of future generations of Filipinos. A number of corporations have it taken upon themselves to help reduce the incidence of hunger in school-aged children by providing regular in-school feeding programs.

The Century Pacific Group – makers of Century, Argentina, 555, Birchtree and Angel – has started the KAIN PO program intended not only to encourage students to stay in school but to nourish them enough so that they might perform better.
