A lunch box a day for a better future

MANILA, Philippines - It’s hard to learn with an empty stomach. Department of Education data showed that for every 100 children who enroll in Grade 1, 20 drop out by the third grade – and hunger is one of the contributing factors.

Hunger and poor education are twin threats that challenge the growth of future generations of Filipinos. A number of corporations have it taken upon themselves to help reduce the incidence of hunger in school-aged children by providing regular in-school feeding programs.

The Century Pacific Group – makers of Century, Argentina, 555, Birchtree and Angel – has started the KAIN PO program intended not only to encourage students to stay in school but to nourish them enough so that they might perform better. Photo shows Century Pacific Group head Ricardo Po Sr. delivering KAIN Po’s three-millionth meal  to a grade school pupil.
