InterCon cited for energy conservation

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - InterContinental Manila received two outstanding citations at the 2012 Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards given out by the Department of Energy recently. The hotel was cited for its exceptional performance in energy efficiency and conservation with energy savings of 490,058 liters of oil equivalent (LOE) valued at P19.2 million and 788,599 kgs of avoided carbon dioxide emissions.

Hotel chief engineer Allan Barrera was named Outstanding Energy Manager in recognition of his leadership in spearheading effective energy management measures such as the use of timers for guest floor corridor lighting, kitchen area de-lamping, minimized pool pump operation, re-lamping of guest rooms, adjustment of air handling units for offices, installation of heat pumps and motorized valves for air handling units.

These accomplishments demonstrate not only the financial benefits of investing in energy efficiency but also InterContinental Manila’s strong commitment to the reduction of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. On hand to receive the honors were InterCon’s general manager Christian Pirodon and chief engineer Allan Barrera.
