- Ben Serrano -

MANILA, Philippines - All is set for the unity run “Kahit Isang Araw Lang” (Even Just One Day) in Butuan City on Jan. 22.

The unity run is a nationwide fund raising charity event which aims to build computer classrooms for public schools nationwide in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).

Event coordinator Arthur Peña said final preparations are underway for the fund raising event organized by Avant-Garde Creatives, DepEd and UNTV.

The unity run will have three categories: 3K, 5K and 10 K, with cash prizes to be given to the top three winners.

Meanwhile, the Mindanao Run for Hope, another fund raising event to raise funds for children with cancer and other diseases, is scheduled on Feb. 5 in Butuan City and simultaneously also in Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Koronadal, Marawi and Zamboanga.

Some 17,000 runners in the six key cities are expected to participate in the PhilHealth sponsored run.

Regional vice president Johnny Sychua of PhilHealth Caraga said part of the proceeds will go to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) Children’s Cancer Center and Blood Diseases Unit (Kids of Hope), the only facility in Visayas and Mindanao that can deliver multidisciplinary care for children with cancer.

Part of the proceeds will also be given to Diocese of Butuan’s Por Cristo Foundation, a facility for the abandoned elderly, and Lingap Center of the Butuan City Social Welfare Office, a facility for abandoned children.
