AES Philippines bags three Asian Power Awards

MANILA, Philippines - AES Philippines, a subsidiary of global energy company AES Corp., garnered top honors in the recent 2011 Asian Power Awards held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The company won a Gold Award for Independent Power Producer of the Year, another Gold Award for Best Power Plant Upgrade in Asia, and a Silver Award for Best Operations and Maintenance Project in Asia.

These awards were in recognition of the successful rehabilitation of the Masinloc Power Plant in Zambales, a power facility acquired by the company in 2008.

“To receive these awards from Asian Power is truly an honor. I attribute our success to our team’s professionalism, passion and determination,” says Andy Horrocks, country manager of AES Philippines. “We will continue to strive for operational excellence — proof of our commitment to support the Philippines as a provider of safe and reliable energy.

Last June, AES Philippines was cited by the Edison Electric Institute, winning in the international category of the Edison Award, one of the most prestigious global awards recognizing US and international electric utilities for outstanding leadership, innovation and contribution to the advancement of the electric industry for the benefit of all.

The Masinloc power plant was also recently recognized by Power Magazine as one of the top coal-fired plants in the world for 2011.
