InterCon awarded for energy efficiency
MANILA, Philippines – InterContinental Manila recently received two citations at the 2010 Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards given out by the Department of Energy in recognition of the dynamic partnership between government and the private sector in instituting best practices in energy management and conservation. The hotel was bestowed an Outstanding Award for achieving 7.40 percent PECO (Percent Energy Conservation) and for energy savings of 171,430 LOE or a monetary equivalent of P5,348,616 and 295,569 kg of avoided CO2.
Measures like the use of timers for guest floor corridor lighting, kitchen area de-lamping, minimized pool pump operation, re-lamping of guest rooms, adjustment of air handling units for offices, installation of heat pumps and installation of motorized valves for air handling units were undertaken by the hotel to achieve the aforementioned savings.
For his leadership in implementing energy saving measures, InterContinental Manila chief engineer Allan Barrera (center) was named Outstanding Energy Manager. He is shown with executive assistant manager Christopher Wichlan and general manager Christian Pirodon with the hotel’s award plaques.
