UPS-Phl joins 8th Global Volunteer Month

-

MANILA, Philippines –  In a celebration of volunteerism, UPS employees and their families in Asia Pacific contributed nearly 22,000 volunteer hours of community service last month during the company’s 8th annual Global Volunteer Month.

“Each October, UPS encourages its employees around the world to make a positive impact in their communities by donating their time and talents to people and organizations in need. This year in Asia Pacific, UPS employees worked to address a range of important issues, including poverty, community safety, and environmental conservation, among others,” said Derek Woodward, president of UPS Asia Pacific Region. “UPS has always placed great importance on supporting the communities we serve through volunteer activities and other charitable initiatives.”

In the Philippines, UPS mobilized employees and their families to assist the AWECA Foundation, a recent UPS grant recipient, for the benefit of the Aeta community in Angeles City. UPS volunteers will participate in various activities in the community such as tree planting, school gardening, school feeding, literacy mentoring and First Aid assistance.

“UPS Philippines employees look forward to Global Volunteer Month activities because it allows them to make a real and meaningful contribution to the various organizations that we have chosen for the year,” said UPS Philippines managing director Tim Gohoc. “It’s also an opportunity for all of us to get together and work alongside each other in a fun, informal manner as members of the UPS family.”

Since its founding in 1907, UPS has built a legacy as a caring and responsible corporate citizen, providing assistance to programs that address critical social, health, educational and community issues. In 2010, UPS provided the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) with substantial financial and in-kind support to areas affected by heavy rains and flooding in Pakistan, as well as in the Philippines, Indonesia, American Samoa and Taiwan in 2009.

UPS is the world’s largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain and freight services. Since its founding in 1907, UPS has built a legacy as a caring and responsible corporate citizen, supporting programs that provide long-term solutions to community needs. In 2009, UPS’s charitable contributions totalled nearly $100 million and UPS employees and their families contributed more than 1.2 million hours of volunteer service.
