Pinay bags performing arts grand prize

MANILA, Philippines - An aspiring singer from Nueva Ecija bagged the 2010 World Championship of Performing Arts grand prize held in Los Angeles, California.

Marielle Corpuz, who hails from Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, won the Senior Grand Champion Performer of the World award. She is a graduate of BS Hotel, Restaurant & Institution Management from Wesleyan University-Philippines in Nueva Ecija.

Corpuz said this was the first time that she won in a singing competition after joining several contests in the Philippines.

The Junior Division of WCOPA 2010 also had a Pinay champion, Leiana Sta. Ana, an 11-year-old Fil-Am resident of New York from Team USA.

Lianah has already won a number of singing competitions in the US such as New York Knicks’ Kidz Bop Sports Jamz Talent Search and the Apollo Amateur Night Competition. She is also a Youtube sensation.
