Valenzuela students, teachers cop academic awards

MANILA, Philippines - Student and teacher representatives from various schools in Valenzuela City had a bountiful harvest of awards in national and regional academic contests sponsored by the Department of Education (Deped).

The city won the over-all championship for elementary level at the recent Regional Science Quest held in P. Bernardo Elementary School in Quezon City, with Muntinlupa and Pasay City as runners up.

In that same competition, sixth grader Christian Eduard Demegillo, with teacher-trainer Luningning de Luna of Bitik Elementary School, emerged as first placer in Science Dama VI, while Arjay Mendoza, grade five pupil at Bignay Elementary School, took second spot for Science Dama V.

For the Investigative Project category, Isabel Bernardo of A. Mariano Elementary School grabbed first place while Angel Ruiz of Mapulang Lupa Elementary School took third place.

Moreover, four DepEd Valenzuela elementary teachers were given honors for their outstanding Strategic Intervention Materials (SIM) that aid learning capabilities of students.     Winning first place on their respective grade levels were Alvin Delvin from Mapulang Lupa Elementary School, Luzviminda Camarista from Lingunan Elementary School and Felipe Tacuyog, Jr. from Tañada Elementary School.

Camarista’s SIM later emerged as the best in the country at the 7th National Science Quest.

In the field of campus journalism, Jazziz Carmona of Malinta National High School won four awards at the National Schools Press Conference – second place for best radio broadcast and third places for best in infomercial and best in technical application.

In the Regional Read-A-Thon contest, Valenzuela elementary pupils took home three awards, including first place for Best Story Re-telling in Filipino by Brian Jude Bulat-ag of Bignay Elementary School.

In the Regional Student Technologists and Entrepreneurs of the Philippines skills development competition, Vicente P. Trinidad National High School’s Ruel James Tamoyang under the mentorship of Hector de Dios took first place. — Perseus Echeminada
