VIGAN, Ilocos Sur , Philippines – The Bayanihan Dance Company returns to Ilocos Sur to continue its Teaching and Touching Lives program in the province.
The transformative program launched in 2009 will continue until this year.
The program includes the training of teachers and student volunteers to research on traditions and uniqueness of their respective region, province, city or municipality and local community. Teachers and students are also assisted in using various tools in the creation of dance, music and costumes, and in managing their own performance.
Understanding of the arts as a medium of expression and communication is also taught, and participants are also enlightened on intellectual property rights. The program components aim to build long-term benefits in creating an appreciation for Filipino cultural heritage.
The transformative program in Ilocos Sur has inspired the creation of “Romanza Ilocana,” a segment of Bayanihan’s season production that is drawn from and inspired by an Ilocano zarzuela.
