Likhang Habi indigenous textiles bazaar set
MANILA, Philippines - The best of homegrown textiles are up for grabs in Likhang Habi: Market Encounter 2 hosted by the Yuchengco Museum on Oct.23 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the courtyard of RCBC Plaza in Makati.
With 30 participating vendors from across the country, Likhang Habi will have exclusive finds – from traditional and contemporary textiles and indigenous handicrafts to one-of-a-kind home decor and designer fashions.
Shoppers can expect to find loom-woven cotton inabel from Northern Luzon, blends of piña silk from Palawan, yakan material from Mindanao, t’nalak with dream-inspired patterns, and banana fiber and silk items by designer Dita Sandico-Ong.
Aside from the two-day marketplace, special events at Likhang Habi include an exhibit of rare antique fabrics and a lecture on local weaving traditions, both at Yuchengco Museum. Leading textile scholar Dr. Norma Respicio will talk on The Philippine Textile Weaving Tradition on Oct. 24 at 3 p.m.
