PSHS opens two new campuses

-

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Science High School System (PSHSS) will open two new campuses this coming school year in Central Luzon and the Cordillera Administrative Region to allow more Filipino students to avail of the government’s free secondary education program at what is considered one of the country’s best schools.

PSHSS executive director Filma Brawner said the campuses are located in Clark Freeport Zone in Angeles City and in Baguio City. The two campuses would offer 90 slots to incoming freshmen.

Brawner said the PSHSS, which is under the Department of Science and Technology, has allocated some P55.7 million for each campus, which would be used for the construction of the buildings as well as for personnel services and capital outlay.

The PSHSS has announced that out of 21,303 applicants, 1,119 passed the entrance examination administered on Nov. 15, 2008.

Brawner urged qualifiers to immediately contact the registrar of the campus director of the PSHS campus where they qualified or visit the following websites: www.pshs.edu.ph or www.dost.gov.ph for more information on early enrollment.

For principal qualifiers of Region 3 and CAR, Brawner said they can contact the PSHSS Admissions Office for the schedule and venue of distribution of enrollment forms.

“For the first batch there would be three sections composed of 30 students each,” Brawner said.

To date, the PSHSS has a total of 11 campuses all over the country, located in Diliman, Quezon City; San Ildefonso, Ilocos Sur; Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya; Goa, Camarines Sur; Palo, Leyte; Argao, Cebu; Jaro, Iloilo; Baloi, Lanao del Norte and Tugbok, Davao City.

Brawner said four more PSHS campuses would be established in Regions 9, 4A and 4B and Caraga by 2010.

PSHS is the country’s leading science and mathematics learning institution in the secondary level. It offers a science- and mathematics-intensive curriculum to prepare students for careers in the sciences and engineering.
