Chinese team topples Saudis to win Esports World Cup
PARIS, France — A Chinese team, All Gamers, beat double-champions Team Falcons from Saudi Arabia to win the video-gaming Esports World Cup (EWC) held Sunday in Paris.
This edition of the EWC — considered the biggest esports event, with over $70 million awarded across the prize pools — was the first to be held outside Saudi Arabia since it was founded there in 2024.
Late Sunday, Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, was to attend the closing ceremony along with his host, President Emmanuel Macron.
The EWC gathers more than 2,000 professional players from around the world, with teams dueling digitally across 24 different video games.
Its organizers announced in May that this year's tournament was to be relocated to France because of the ongoing Middle East war.
Next year's edition is planned to be back in Riyadh.
