Comelec sets gun ban in 5 Parañaque barangays

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday reminded residents of five coastal barangays in Parañaque City that a gun ban would be enforced ahead of the July 25 plebiscite on the proposed alteration of their territorial boundaries.
In a public advisory, the Comelec said the plebiscite would be from June 25 to Aug. 1, covering Barangays Baclaran, Tambo, Don Galo, La Huerta and San Dionisio.
The plebiscite seeks to ratify City Ordinance 2023-19, Series of 2022, dated July 13, 2023, which proposes to alter the existing territorial boundaries of the five barangays adjoining the reclaimed areas in Manila Bay through the adoption of the straight-line policy in determining their amended boundaries.
Voting will be held on July 25 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The poll body said carrying of firearms and other deadly weapons in the five barangays is strictly prohibited during the plebiscite.
To ensure compliance with the gun ban, the Comelec said checkpoints would be established in coordination with the Philippine National Police.
