Batch 2003 rolls to sixth straight win in SHAABAA
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Landmasters Batch 2003 hammered the undermanned 2K Core Pacific, 72-37, to remain unbeaten in the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 29 at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles Arena in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
Justin Huang finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals while Carlo Cecil Alerta added 10 points, three rebounds, seven assists and a steal in the wire-to-wire trIumph that fortified Batch 2003’s hold of the Division A lead with a clean 6-0 slate.
Joseph Lo posted a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds while Benedict Chua also nailed 14 markers on top of four rebounds and one assist but to no avail as Core Pacific dropped to 4-2.
With Core Pacific’s defeat, ARQ Batch 2001 assumed the solo second spot with a 4-1 record after crushing Big Three Pizza Batch 1996, 68-53.
Mark Hing led Batch 2001 with 20 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Jason Arquisola chipped in 12 points, six rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block while Josef Reoma dished out 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal for the ARQ-backed squad, which never looked back after cruising to a 50-35 lead at the end of the third frame.
Andew Po came up with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Roderick Mangubat charted 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists but their efforts went in vain as Batch 1996 slipped to 3-3.
In Division C, the defending champion Core+ Batch 2018 improved to 6-1 after winning by default over Comforser Tires Batch 2022, while Batch 2014 whipped Rufrance LPG Batch 2026, 84-74.
Lucky Ecarma recorded a double-double of 29 points and 15 rebounds with six assists while Noriko Benedicto contributed 13 points, four rebounds and a steal as Batch 2014 chalked up its fourth victory in six games.
Jair Igna and Arvid Jason Ong were the other double-digit scorers for Batch 2014 with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Benj Anthony Chua delivered a dazzling double-double performance of 31 points and 19 rebounds with five assists and two steals but his impressive showing went to waste as Batch 2026 fell to 3-4.
