CANDON, Ilocos Sur, Philippines — Alas Pilipinas will whip up its own storm as it clashes with Uzbekistan in the AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup, which will push through as scheduled today at the Candon City Arena amid the stormy weather.

Alyssa Solomon, who withdrew from the PVL Rookie Draft to focus on national team duties, made the 14-player roster at the last minute and should spearhead the hosts against the Uzbeks at 3 p.m.

Also part of the squad are Thea Gagate, Alyssa Valdez, Ces Molina, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Royse Tubino, Tots Carlos, Ara Galang, Kyle Negrito, Kyla Atienza, Alyssa Eroa, Nina Ytang and Clarisse Loresco with Shaq delos Santos as interim coach.

The Nationals hope to replicate, if not eclipse, their runner-up finish in Vietnam last year.

Alas, bracketed in Pool A, will battle Australia next tomorrow, Kyrgyzstan Monday, South Korea Tuesday, and Chinese Taipei Thursday in this event backed by Candon City Mayor Eric Singson and the Philippine Sports Commission.
