Chinabank, Google Pay unlock a fast, secure tap-to-phone payment experience

MANILA, Philippines — China Banking Corporation (Chinabank) is taking another confident step in its digital journey as it introduces Google Pay compatibility for its Mastercard and Visa credit and debit cards, following its official launch last November 18.
With this launch, Chinabank stands alone as the only issuing bank in the Philippines that enables Google Pay for all its cardholders—Visa or Mastercard, debit or credit—delivering unmatched accessibility and convenience. This move strengthens the Bank’s commitment to modern financial experiences under its brand promise “Focused on You,” and marks a significant stride toward more intuitive, secure, and user-friendly ways for customers to transact both in the Philippines and abroad.
As tap-to-pay becomes a familiar part of daily life for many Android users, Chinabank’s integration with Google Pay ensures quick and secure digital payments bringing added ease to everyday transactions. Mobile wallets have become central to modern convenience, and this integration makes checkout even simpler by allowing users to tap, authenticate and go. Combined with robust security through tokenization, customers enjoy a seamless shift through this broader move toward cashless convenience across the country.

“Our collaboration with Google Pay reinforces our commitment to make everyday banking simpler and more meaningful for our customers,” said Jose Julian Baduria Jr., head of Chinabank Payment Solutions.
“This partnership allows our cardholders to enjoy a faster and safer way to pay using the devices they carry every day. It reflects our goal to deliver experiences that are convenient, intuitive, and built around the needs of our customers.”
For Chinabank, the partnership is not just a technological milestone but a continuation of the work already underway across its digital ecosystem. The recent enhancements to the MyCBC app reflect their continuing investment in digital-first services, and enabling Google Pay adds another layer of convenience for customers who prefer fast, frictionless transactions.
From tap-to-pay checkout at physical stores to quick online payments that rely on the customer’s device authentication, the experience is designed to be intuitive even for those new to digital wallets.
Beyond elevating the banking experience, this new capability places Chinabank in a strong position to connect with a younger, digitally engaged audience. By aligning with a global technology leader, they strengthen their reputation as an innovative and future-ready institution, ready to meet evolving consumer expectations and the growing demand for secure digital payment options.
Customers can begin using Google Pay by simply adding their Chinabank Credit or Debit Card to the Google Wallet app on their Android device. The process starts by opening Google Wallet and selecting the option to add a new payment card.
From there, card details may be scanned or entered manually, followed by a quick verification step that confirms identity and activates the card for secure digital payments. Once verified, the card instantly becomes available for use across all Google Pay channels.
Paying with Google Pay is just as intuitive. For in-store purchases, customers only need to unlock their phone and hold it near a contactless payment terminal until the confirmation appears. Online and in-app transactions are equally simple by choosing Google Pay at checkout for fast, secure processing.
Security remains a core element of the integration. Every payment is protected through advanced tokenization, which replaces sensitive card information with a device-specific digital number, and biometric authentication such as fingerprint or face unlock ensures that only the cardholder can authorize the transaction.
To support this transition, Chinabank is placing strong emphasis on education and support to ensure a smooth transition for first-time users. Guides, visual cues and step-by-step resources across its digital platforms will be rolled out and backed by customer service teams ready to assist anyone who needs help setting up or navigating Google Wallet.
As one of the first banks in the Philippines to enable Google Pay, Chinabank continues to chart its path toward a more connected financial landscape, offering customers smarter and more secure ways to pay wherever they go.
