One, two, click: discovering the wonders of online shopping with your credit card

- Abby Rebong -

MANILA, Philippines - Take a break from Googling your name or updating your Facebook status by indulging in a little shopping spree – online.

While Multiply stores still opt for good ol’ money transfer when it comes to making store transactions, most online sites – from airline tickets to auctions still mostly rely on credit card transactions. If you haven’t tried shopping online yet, be prepared for a unique, more personal, and best of all, more convenient way to buying the things that you want.

PayPal is your friend

Ever tried browsing through eBay? You will definitely not run out of interesting options from clothes, gadgets, accessories, toys, homeware – even food, just type in the keyword for the things that you are interested in and you’ll quickly be presented with a whole gamut of product suggestions ranging from the dirt cheap to the ridiculously overpriced. Don’t get overwhelmed and start bidding on the first thing that catches your fancy, there’s an option called “watch this item” which you can use to keep track of the things that you like but still aren’t sure of whether or not you want to get. This is an easy way for you to check and compare before choosing the item that best suits your budget.

One of the many perks of shopping through an online auction site like eBay is that it easily links you to not just local merchants but sellers from all over the world. Now you can score a Cath Kidston bag from London or a limited edition Tsumori Chisato mook from Japan without having to leave your home.

Once you’re ready to make your purchase, this is where PayPal comes in. This is the preferred mode of payment when it comes to transactions done on eBay. Signing up is easy, all you need to do is log on to the PayPal website and create your account, you’ll need to input your credit card account, preferably one that is supported by Mastercard, Visa, or American Express. After you are able to verify your PayPal account, you are now ready to shop ‘til you drop whether on eBay, Etsy, and other popular shopping sites. PayPal is a secured way to send payments online so you can be assured that your credit card account won’t get hacked or used by malicious people.

Shopping at the convenience of your own home

Aside from scoring unique finds from eBay or Etsy, you can also start shopping at your favorite brands – here and abroad at the convenience of your own home. Brands like Forever21, Urban Outfitters, and Kamiseta have already set up shop online making it easier for you to get a hold of these season’s must-have items in just a few clicks. Make sure that you have a good idea what your size is at these clothing brands to avoid having to exchange your purchases as this can be quite a hassle. Such online sites gives you more options if you want something that you can’t seem to find locally.

Avoiding long lines and sale fares

Another perk that credit cardholders are definitely enjoying these days is the added convenience of making online bookings quick and easy. Now you don’t have to go to the mall and lineup for hours just to pay for a plane ticket especially since most airline companies have also started offering exciting promotions that are also exclusive online. Sale fares are very popular these days so if you don’t want to miss out on these great promotions you definitely need to have a credit card handy at all times.

So you see, shopping online, whether it be for plane tickets, knick knacks or fashion items is just as easy as one, two, three as long as you have your credit card ready.
