Green by Design

MANILA, Philippines - With the undeniable degradation of the planet Earth, Sustainable Design is by far, one of the most important concepts heard of today. Also known as environmental design, it refers to creating physical objects, built environment and services that complies with the principles of economic, social and ecological sustainability. Its main goal is to eliminate negative impacts of construction to the environment through skillful alternatives and sensitive design practices.

Now on its 11th year, BluPrint, the Design Sourcebook is working hard to uphold the concept of ‘green design’ in the Philippines. The magazine continuously promotes the value and benefits of living in spaces built with much regard to nature without compromising aesthetics. BluPrint’s Second Special Issue out this July, rightfully titled ‘Designer Green’ showcases Asia’s most innovative sustainable designs. In the height of environmentally sustainable products and designs, BluPrint leads the pact in celebrating and promulgating the importance of renewable materials and Earth-friendly construction methods. After all, this is the only place we can call home.

Together with the prestigious design organizations Philippine Association of Landscape Artists (PALA), Philippine Institute of Interior Designers and United Architects of the Philippines, BluPrint launches yet another first in the local design scene with the Second Annual Visionary Design (AViD) Competition that aims to increase awareness for the need and benefits of having green spaces. The competition will be about designing a green roof that requires the harmonious interplay of Architecture, Interior Design and Landscape Architecture. BluPrint celebrates Green Design

BluPrint Magazine, the Design Sourcebook, in partnership with the Philippine Association of Landscape Architects (PALA), held a press conference last July 14, 2010 at the Astoria Plaza for the launch of the magazine’s Second Special Issue–Designer Green, out this July and the upcoming Second Annual Visionary Design (AViD) Competition.

Attended by industry key players, professionals, members of the academe and students, the press conference talked about sustainable design in the Philippines and the present state of local landscape architecture. Landscape architect and BluPrint Magazine editor-in-chief Paulo Alcazaren led the intimate talk, alongside with Dicky Altavas, president of PALA and other PALA officers.

In line with its 11th year as the premier design magazine, BluPrint also launched the Second Annual Visionary Design (AViD) Competition where teams are going to design the best green roof.
